Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival in Manali

Arrive in Manali, a beautiful town nestled in the Kullu Valley. Check into your hotel and spend the day acclimatizing and preparing for the trek. Take a leisurely stroll around Manali, exploring the markets and local temples. In the evening, there will be a briefing about the trek and safety measures. Overnight stay in Manali.

Day 2: Manali to Jispa (3,200 m)

Drive from Manali to Jispa, a quaint village on the banks of the Bhaga River. The scenic drive crosses the famous Rohtang Pass, offering stunning views of the Pir Panjal range. Check into a campsite or guesthouse in Jispa and spend the evening relaxing by the river, taking in the stunning mountain scenery. Overnight stay in Jispa.

Day 3: Acclimatization Day in Jispa

Spend the day acclimatizing to the altitude in Jispa, as this is essential for a successful high-altitude trek. Take a short hike to nearby villages, visit the Jispa Monastery, and enjoy the serene surroundings. Rest well and prepare for the start of your trek tomorrow. Overnight stay in Jispa.

Day 4: Jispa to Rarik (3,600 m)

Today marks the first day of trekking. Begin with a gradual ascent along the Bhaga River, heading toward the small settlement of Rarik. The trail passes through lush meadows and offers views of surrounding peaks. Set up camp near Rarik, where you’ll spend the night under the stars.

Day 5: Rarik to Chumik Nakpo (4,050 m)

Continue your trek with a moderate climb towards Chumik Nakpo. The trail becomes rockier as you ascend, with beautiful vistas of snow-capped mountains in the distance. Camp at Chumik Nakpo, where you’ll feel the altitude more intensely. Spend the evening acclimatizing and resting.

Day 6: Chumik Nakpo to Lakong via Shingo La (5,091 m)

Today is challenging as you cross Shingo La, the highest point of the trek. The ascent is steep and requires a steady pace, but the reward is a spectacular view from the pass. Descend to Lakong, where you’ll set up camp for the night. The views of the surrounding valleys and peaks are unforgettable.

Day 7: Lakong to Kargyak (4,060 m)

Begin the descent into the Zanskar Valley, heading towards Kargyak, one of the first villages of the valley. The landscape here is more arid, with rugged terrain and colorful rock formations. Arrive in Kargyak and camp near the village, with an option to explore the local monastery.

Day 8: Kargyak to Purne (3,800 m)

Today’s trek takes you along the Tsarap River as you journey through Zanskar’s unique landscapes. Arrive in Purne, a beautiful village known for its traditional Zanskari houses. Set up camp here, surrounded by terraced fields and views of towering mountains.

Day 9: Purne to Phuktal Monastery (3,900 m) and back to Purne

This day includes a visit to Phuktal Monastery, one of Zanskar’s most iconic sights, nestled into a cliffside. Marvel at the monastery's architecture and interact with the monks. After exploring the monastery, return to Purne for the night.

Day 10: Purne to Cha (3,970 m)

Resume trekking along the Tsarap River towards Cha. The trail is dotted with small villages and barley fields. Overnight stay at Cha, where you’ll experience more of the Zanskari lifestyle and hospitality.

Day 11: Cha to Testa (4,000 m)

Today’s trek takes you further into the valley, with a gradual climb through rocky terrain. Camp at Testa, a remote village with mesmerizing mountain views, and take time to relax after the day's journey.

Day 12: Testa to Pidmo (3,600 m)

Descend towards Pidmo, enjoying beautiful landscapes along the way. The village offers a look into the simple yet rich cultural life of Zanskar. Overnight camp in Pidmo.

Day 13: Pidmo to Hanumil (3,400 m)

Today’s trek is relatively easy with a gentle descent. The landscape becomes more barren as you approach Hanumil. Camp in Hanumil for the night and take in the serenity of the valley.

Day 14: Hanumil to Zangla (3,375 m)

Trek to Zangla, a significant cultural spot in the Zanskar Valley. Explore the ruins of the Zangla Palace and interact with the friendly locals. Overnight stay in a camp near Zangla.

Day 15: Rest Day in Zangla

Spend the day resting and exploring Zangla. Visit the local monastery, interact with villagers, and learn about the cultural heritage of Zanskar. This day allows you to rejuvenate for the remaining trek.

Day 16: Zangla to Stongde (3,500 m)

Continue your trek to Stongde, known for the beautiful Stongde Monastery perched atop a hill. Visit the monastery and spend the night in a campsite nearby.

Day 17: Stongde to Karsha (3,650 m)

Trek through scenic paths to reach Karsha, home to the largest monastery in Zanskar. Explore the monastery complex, marveling at its ancient artifacts and architecture. Overnight stay in Karsha.

Day 18: Karsha to Padum (3,500 m)

Today’s trek leads you to Padum, the main town of Zanskar. Padum is a lively place where you can explore markets, monasteries, and interact with locals. Overnight stay in Padum.

Day 19: Rest Day in Padum

Spend the day resting and exploring Padum. This day can be used for short excursions or simply relaxing in the town after weeks of trekking.

Day 20: Padum to Rangdum by Jeep

Begin the return journey by jeep, traveling from Padum to Rangdum. Enjoy scenic landscapes along the way. Overnight stay at a guesthouse or camp in Rangdum.

Day 21: Rangdum to Kargil by Jeep

Continue driving from Rangdum to Kargil, a major town with unique culture and history. Check into your hotel and spend the night in Kargil.

Day 22: Kargil to Leh

Complete the journey with a scenic drive to Leh, where your unforgettable Zanskar trek concludes. Check into a hotel in Leh for your last night, reminiscing about the journey.
