Leh Palace, built in the 17th century by King Sengge Namgyal, stands as a testament to the region's rich history. The nine-story palace was modeled after the Potala Palace in Lhasa, Tibet, and offers panoramic views of Leh town and the surrounding mountains. The architecture of the palace blends Tibetan and Buddhist influences.
The palace was once home to the royal family of Ladakh. Following the invasion by the Dogra forces in the 19th century, the royal family moved out, and the palace began to deteriorate. Today, it is a museum showcasing artifacts, traditional Ladakhi art, and culture.
Leh Palace is an excellent example of Tibetan architecture, with its intricate wooden beams and flat roofs. The palace is surrounded by massive walls and features grand terraces with a view of the beautiful Leh valley.
